History

The Finnish Society for Andrology was founded in 1988 to coordinate and promote the activities of andrology as basic and clinical science in Finland. Since several major research groups were active in the field of andrology in the country, there was also a need to gather all those interested in the field to work together.

Purpose

The Society organizes symposia on topical matters in basic and clinical andrology, and hands-on courses on new andrological methods and on quality control of sperm analysis. It follows the development of legislation on reproductive issues and reacts to new proposals, when needed. There is also a profound need in the Society to establish clinical andrology or reproductive medicine, including reproductive endocrinology and treatment of male and female infertility, as a specialty in the context of Finland and the European Union. The goals of the Society are in these matters in line with those of the European Academy of Andrology. The Society supports also young andrologists financially.
